Community Employment Specialist
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, Full time UNIT: Program
OBJECTIVES: Community Employment Specialist, under the general supervision of the Program Manager or other supervisor/manager as assigned, is responsible for providing customized employment services, job placement/ internship placement services, development of volunteer opportunities/assessment work sites, job shadowing and discovery, developing relationships with funding agencies, and providing other client support as needed to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
DUTIES: Specifically, the Community Employment Specialist is responsible for the following:
  1. Developing community relations with potential employers to create job shadowing and exploration opportunities, volunteer opportunities, internships and individual placements for eligible clients referred by the Regional Centers and Department of Rehabilitation.
  2. Learn and be able to deliver Customized Employment practices and strategies.
  3. Developing external situational assessment work sites and job exploration sites for clients interested in community employment.
  4. Assisting clients in successfully completing job applications and preparing them for the interview process.
  5. Developing an effective Job Club curriculum and conducting Job Club classes for participants.
  6. Providing disability awareness training and information regarding tax incentives to employers.
  7. Providing support and follow-up services to employers and clients to ensure job placement retention.
  8. Developing Job Placement plans, recording job development activities, and fulfilling all paperwork as required.
  9. Assist with the design of onsite and off-site skill development activities and provide or assist with the implementation as appropriate.
10.Conduct tours, intakes, develop the IHSP/ISP, and complete periodic updates/progress reports or other support plan reports and daily documentation as required for assigned participants on caseload. Communicate with family and funding agencies as required.
11.Conduct trainings on skill development, socialization skills, soft skills, mobility training, etc., in group or one-on-one settings both on site and off site.
12.Insure that all processes, procedures and documents meet CARF standards, the expectations of the funding agency, and FVOS internal standards of operation.
13.FVOS will at times implement programs, tools and techniques like but not limited to Project SEARCH, Customized Employment, Youth Services, Older Workers and Veterans Services. This position is expected to acquire the needed skills and knowledge to work in variety of areas and locations.
14.Performing other duties as assigned. In a service agency such as FVOS, effective service to clients occasionally requires staff to perform duties outside their normally assigned duties.
  • 􏰀  Master’s Degree or advanced degree in Social Services or relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience in field.
  • 􏰀  Relevant experience related to supporting individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment.
  • 􏰀  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • 􏰀  A minimum of two years of work experience in placement services or supported employment preferred.
  • 􏰀  Excellent communication skills.
  • 􏰀  Excellent writing skills.
  • 􏰀  Good public relations skills.
  • 􏰀  Strong sales and networking skills.
  • 􏰀  Self-directed, organized, responsible, and able to make good observations regarding the clients.
  • 􏰀  Possesses a valid California Driver’s license and has reliable, properly insured transportation for use during work hours.
  • 􏰀  Approved criminal background check.
  • 􏰀  Physical Expectations: Drive frequently, able to handle indoor and outdoor work environment. Sit and type for extended periods, enter data, and write reports. Lift and carry between 25 lbs. to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • 􏰀  Able to work some evenings and weekends.
